ONEONTA – The Norwich Purple Tornado softball team began its 2023 season on the road against Oneonta, where they suffered a 11-0 loss. In Wednesday’s game, the Tornado were no-hit through seven innings, but reached base once. Siennah Bresee was the lone base runner in the fifth inning on a 3-2 count walk.
Oneonta tacked on five runs in the first inning before Norwich settled in on defense in the next three innings. Starter Madalyn Quattrocchi picked up a couple of strikeouts to get through the second inning despite giving up a few extra base hits. She then had two clean innings with four more strikeouts. 13 Oneonta batters struck out in the contest.
The Yellowjackets scored four more runs in the fifth inning off some defensive trouble before finishing with one run in their final at-bat in the bottom of the sixth.
Norwich (0-1) will host a tough Greene team on Monday at 5 p.m. in a non-league matchup.
