S-E Competes In Section III Indoor Track Championship

SYRACUSE – The Sherburne-Earlville Marauders indoor track team traveled to Onondaga Community College in Syracuse for the Section III Class C championship on Tuesday. The boys finished in ninth place with 26 points while the girls tied with Dolgeville for 13th place with 12 points. S-E also had two seniors on this year’s team whom did well in their respective events.

Lily Stoddard earned 10 points for the girls in the shot-put and weight-throw events. She came in third place in the shot-put with a throw of 26 feet, 1 2/4 inches while achieving a new personal-record of 32-7 for the weight-throw. Her new best was good enough for fourth place.

Aside from Stoddard, eighth grader Avery Solloway received the remaining two team points in the high jump, where she finished in fifth place (4-4).

Senior Cooper Lounsbury set a new personal record with a jump of 19 feet, four inches for second place in the boys long jump. He also took third for the shot put with a throw of 36 feet, 8 1/4 inches.

The boys also had numerous runners do well in the sprinting events. Eighth grader Braden Lewis achieved a new best time of 3:00.43 in the 1000 meter run for 10th place. Teammate and junior Ryan Solloway just missed earning at least a point in the 600 meter run. He ran the event in 1:42.53 for a seventh place finish. Solloway also finished 10th in the 300 meter dash (42.46 seconds).

Aidan Camenga had an impressive day in the three events he participated in. He almost tied his personal-best of 9.27 seconds in the 55 meter hurdles, but ran it in 9.28 seconds for a fourth place finish. He also finished fourth in the long jump with a jump of 18 feet, 8 inches and took fourth in the triple jump (39-2). Michael Fetzko finished ninth in the triple jump with a jump of 16 feet, 9 2/4 inches.

Sean O’Connor missed the top 10 with a 14th finish in the 1600 meter run, but achieved a new best time of 5:11.42.
