NORWICH - A public hearing has been scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on July 21 during the City of Norwich Common Council meeting to discuss re-zoning for 115 Birdsall St.

At the City of Norwich Joint Committee meeting last week, Fire Chief Jan Papelino informed the common council that the owner of the property at 115 Birdsall St. was requesting to build a multifamily apartment style building.

The area was originally zoned for industrial use when a shoe factory was operating in that location. The planning commission is requesting to change the zone to an R-2, which is for multifamily residential.

The owner of the property has begun demolition but needs approval from the common council and zoning board to begin construction.
