Official Date Set For Norwich Drive-in Theater’s Opening

By: Zachary Meseck

NORWICH - The Colonia Theatre has officially set an opening date for its upcoming drive-in theater opening, and while it had hoped to open this weekend theater representatives said they are still in the process of finalizing all safety procedures and finishing final preparations.

According to a statement from theater representatives, the drive-in’s first showing will open at 8 p.m. next Friday at the Chenango County Fairgrounds.

“We will have our first showing on Friday July 10th,” said Colonia Theatre Owner Rich Barnes on social media. “We will not be able to open this weekend due to finalizing all safety procedures and finishing all final preparations.”

“We are still having minor difficulties with the projector and setting up standard procedures that need to be set in place.”

Barnes said the two movies for next weekend will be The Goonies and The Little Giants. He said theatre representatives will be posting information on Facebook and on the theatre’s website.

He added people will be able to find information including a parking layout, restrictions and COVID requirements and a menu for the concession stand on his website. In an interview earlier this week Barnes said the Colonia Theatre will partner with Ninas to run the concession stands, and there are a number of safety precautions in place to help reduce any potential coronavirus concerns.
