A Letter From The Mayor Of Norwich Concerning Public Gatherings

A letter from the Mayor of Norwich concerning public gatherings Mayor of Norwich, Shawn Sastri

To Norwich Residents:

Our first priority as residents of the City is to keep ourselves and others safe during this difficult time. In addition to requesting all residents adhere to the social distancing requirements I would like to make the following requests:

Please stay off the public playground equipment

Please stay off the public basketball and tennis courts

These public places are not regularly cleaned or sanitized and continuing to use them risks the spread of the coronavirus to yourselves and/or others.

To the teenage residents of the City, please keep yourselves and your friends safe by staying home and socializing with your friends in ways that don’t require in person contact. If the City Police observe groups of people out in public, you will be asked to return home. Parents, please have a conversation with your teens to stress the importance of adhering to the social distancing requirements.

Story Continues Below Adverts

These continue to be uncertain times and I am grateful for the counsel of the City of Norwich and Chenango County Emergency Management Offices. The staff remains up to date with all the evolving State and Federal requirements and resources available to our community. The Chenango County Public Health Director is the lead in this emergency and maintains all data regarding confirmed cases in our county. The health department releases information to the public as they are permitted and as they deem appropriate. I am not advised with any more details on confirmed cases than the public. If you would like to stay informed on a regular basis, visit the Facebook pages for the City of Norwich/Chenango County Emergency Operations Center, the Chenango County Health Department, the CDC, New York State.

We continue to evaluate staffing at City Hall to keep our employees and the public safe. Effective immediately City Hall will maintain hours 8am-5pm Monday through Thursday and will be closed on Friday. For residents wanting to submit payments please use the drop box at City Hall, visit https://wipp.edmundsassoc.com/Wipp/?wippid=NORW to make online payments or mail a payment to One City Plaza, Norwich, NY 13815

I’d like to close by thanking the first responders at our Norwich Police Department and the Norwich Fire Department for their willingness to make the sacrifice to continue to provide services to area residents. I would also like the thank the medical personnel in our community for making the same sacrifice to ensure our doctor’s offices and hospital are staffed. Stay safe and healthy.

Sincerely,

Mayor Shawn Sastri
