NEW BERLIN – New Berlin’s Frank H. Arnold American Legion Post 348 is sponsoring a visible show of patriotism this spring with an American flag exchange.

According to Program Lead Retired Major General Peter Lennon, as a show of community involvement, local groups have volunteered to help residents who may need assistance mounting their flags.

“As part of the program American Legion members will collect and respectfully “retire” worn flags at an official flag burning ceremony, open to the public, later the spring,” said Lennon.

He said residents of New Berlin, South New Berlin, Columbus, Pittsfield, and South Edmeston are being encouraged to exchange their winter-weathered outdoor flags for a new durable, American-made three by five-foot flag, and that a free-will donation is suggested.
