CONKLIN – Unlike the first meeting between the Lady Purple Tornado and Susquehanna Valley, Norwich controlled the game from start to finish as they picked up the Southern Tier Athletic Conference divisional win over the Sabers Monday night, 61-36.
The win snapped Norwich’s three-game losing streak and at a crucial time as the Tornado started the second half off their divisional schedule.
The 22-5 run that Norwich went on to open the game set the tone early. The always pressuring defense that the Purple Tornado caused it’s usual chaos as the host Sabers did not reach double figures until the fourth quarter of play.
In the first quarter, Emily Evans and Abby Flynn combined for 18 of the team’s 22 points. Both players contributed a team-best 14 points as Norwich received balanced scoring throughout.
MacKenzie Hess, one of two Norwich players who hit two 3-pointers in the game, drained one from behind the arc in the second quarter. Maddy Morris, who hit the other one in the same stanza, also knocked down two from long range during the game.
