NORWICH – Chenango County’s supervisors on Tuesday promised themselves and the majority of their employees 2 percent raises next year, in addition to $500 for full-timers. A dozen employees received higher compensation.

The 2007 compensation schedule as presented passed with two supervisors opposing: Peter C. Flanagan, D-Preston, and James J. McNeil, D-City of Norwich. Town supervisors from Otselic, Guilford and Plymouth were absent.

Prior to the final vote, officials discussed the pay plan within an executive session that lasted nearly 30 minutes. Afterward, two attempted amendments failed. McNeil asked for an increase in the Planning Director’s salary from $42,000 last year to $45,000 for 2007. The position was budgeted at $48,000 prior to the later hiring of new director Donna M. Jones at $40,000. A closely-called weighted vote count totaled 1,138 of the 1,201 majority needed to pass.
