Chenango Valley 86, Norwich 77

NORWICH – At Norwich High School Friday, Norwich’s seniors all came through victories on Senior Recognition Night, but the Tornado came up short in the final scoring to visiting Chenango Valley.

Seniors Killian Benedict and Jon Manwarren each captured two events, and senior diver Ricky Finnegan posted a 213.35, his highest score at home this campaign.

“Unfortunately we were down another swimmer, and when you have a many swimmers as we have, every person counts,” said Norwich coach Kevin Diefenbacher.

Benedict swam his best time of the season winning the 100 backstroke in 57.38, just off his own personal record, and less than a second off of the school record. “He’s inching closer and closer,” Diefenbacher said of Benedict’s backstroke progress toward the school mark.

Manwarren won the 200 and 500 freestyles, and Norwich as a team had six personal-best swims.
