No quorum at S-E board meeting

SHERBURNE – No action could be taken at a meeting of the Sherburne-Earlville Board of Education Monday night for lack of a quorum.

Instead of conducting business on the agenda, which would have included an executive session to discuss union and tenure contracts, the two members present (and approximately 10 in attendance) heard informational reports only.

Assistant Superintendent Thomas Strain did take time to address the latest state education take-backs proposed by New York Governor David Paterson last week. The effect on the Sherburne-Earlville district could amount to $371,800, but he said residents “shouldn’t hyper-ventilate” over it.

“We were told that the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding would give us back the $653,000 that was taken at mid -year as part of the Governor’s deficit reduction plan then,” he said, “but, we never counted on it, anyway. So, if ARRA comes, we’ll be getting back close to this latest cut.”
