Oxford dominates in overtime

Oxford 2, Walton 1 (OT)

OXFORD – Oxford set up a showdown with Section IV Division II leader Afton beating Walton in overtime Monday afternoon.

Christi Baker’s shot rebounded off the goalie’s pads to mate Jenna Farwell, who neatly placed the ball in the cage for the victory with four minutes left in overtime. “We came out and dominated in the overtime period,” said Oxford coach Missy Chrystie. “They slowed the game down in the first half and we were kind of playing in slow motion. It was a nice chain of events that led to our winning goal.”

Baker scored for Oxford (11-4-2) in the second half, who play at Afton Thursday.

Sauquoit Valley 3, S-E 2

SHERBURNE – Sauquoit Valley broke a 1-1 halftime tie with two goals in the first seven minutes of the second half to prevail over the Marauders Monday.

Sam Crandall and Karli Harris had goals for Sherburne-Earlville, and Harris’ was a team-record 21st this season to break the mark of 20 established by Kelly Cooman when S-E played in Section IV.

“We came out flat to start the second half and they took advantage,” said S-E coach Sheila Cooman. “We had some opportunities and played well late in the game, but couldn’t finish to get the tying goal.”

The Marauders finish their regular season schedule Wednesday at Hamilton.
