Thelma Orlandi


SOUTH NEW BERLIN – Thelma D. Orlandi, 94, of South New Berlin, died on Monday, Nov. 26, 2007 at Wilson Regional Medical Center in Johnson City.
Born in Scranton, Pa. on April 19, 1913, Thelma was the daughter of Nicholas and Martha (Schwin) Weber. She graduated from Taylor High School in Taylor, PA and in 1931 married O. James (Jimmy) Orlandi in Worcester. Jimmy preceded her in death in 1985. They lived most of their married life in Oneonta. While in Oneonta, Thelma worked as manager of the Grand Union Company’s Triple S Stamp Store until its closing. In 1984 they moved to South New Berlin and in 2006, Thelma moved into the Gilmour Health Care Facility.
Thelma is survived by her daughter, Dawne Berberich and her husband, Richard, of Norwich and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Shevlin and Mildred Clark and three brothers, Clarence, Charles and Willard Weber.
In her younger days, Thelma was very involved with her daughter’s school activities as a volunteer and Girl Scout Leader. She was a long time member of Royal Rebekah Lodge #161 of Oneonta where she had served as Noble Grand. She was also a volunteer on bloodmobiles and at the Chenango Memorial Hospital’s Pink Door. She was an accomplished seamstress and crafter and was a member of the West Oneonta Home Bureau and later the Norwich Chapter.She was also a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Norwich.
Funeral services for Thelma will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Wilson Funeral Home. Rev. Douglas Horne, chaplain at the Gilmour Health Care Facility, will officiate. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
