William Spano


NORWICH – William Spano, 80, of King Settlement Road, Norwich, passed away Monday evening, July 10, 2006 at his home.
The son of John and Angelina (Savarese) Spano, William was born in Brooklyn on Sept. 27, 1925. Following his high school graduation, William enlisted in the merchant marine. On April 27, 1963, in Yorkville, he married Dorothy Hostomsky.
William lived most of his life in Huntington, L.I., moving to the Norwich area only six years ago to be closer to his family. He spent his working years as a sanitation department employee, retiring in 1989. One of William’s great pleasures was fishing, a sport he had enjoyed in both Long Island and in Norwich.
William is survived by his wife, Dorothy Spano of Norwich; by his daughters, Kathy Ketchum and husband Clifton of Norwich and Dorothy Guppy and husband Michael of Medford; and by his grandchildren: Yvette Smith, Nicholas Weckesser, Thomas Weckesser, Jacqueline Guppy, Michael Guppy, and Amanda Guppy. William was predeceased by his only sibling, his sister, Rita Briscoe.
Graveside funeral services for William will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday from the Mt. Hope Cemetery. The Rev. Douglas Cunningham, pastor of the Church of the Holy Apostles, will officiate. There will be no calling hours.
