NORWICH – Robert “Bob” Joseph Murtagh, 80, of Norwich, passed away early Friday morning, Oct. 26, 2007 at his home.
The son of Thomas and Gladys Mclntosh Murtagh, Bob was born in Norwich in June of 1927. An Army career man, he retired as a Master Sgt. First Class in March of 1967 after serving for 23 years. Bob had also been employed by Procter & Gamble, retiring in 1983. Following his retirement he and his wife traveled the United States for 20 years before returning to Norwich where they made their home for the past several years.
Bob is survived by his wife Betty Jane of Norwich, his children; Sheryl Murtagh, Carolyn Fleming and her husband Jeff all of Charlotte, N.C., his step-children, Paula Burdick and husband David of Hummelstown, Pa., George Chesebro and wife Carol of Guntersville, Ala., and Larry Chesebro of Norwich along with 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister, Julia (Judy) Kieru of Schenectady, and his brothers Michael Murtagh also of Schenectady and William Murtagh of Texas. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
At Bob’s request, there will be no formal services and interment will be in the Columbus Comers Cemetery at a later date.
