Florence Hood

NEW BERLIN – Florence Idell (Brown) Hood, 68, passed away Saturday evening, Oct. 20, 2007 surrounded by her family in her home in Hardwick, Massachusetts. She and her husband Richard Hood had recently moved to Hardwick from Kerrville, Texas, to be close to their family, especially their beloved grandchildren. Florence and Richard lived in many different communities during their 48-year marriage. Florence was well loved everywhere she went.
Florence was born on April 2, 1939 in Houston, Texas to Oliver Edward (“O.E.”) Brown and Alice Burt Brown. She graduated from Milby High School in 1957, and attended Sam Houston State Teachers College in Huntsville, Texas. She was married to Richard Neal Hood, on Sept. 18, 1959. Florence and Richard had two children, James Edward Hood and Laura Louise Hood.
Florence had a passion for arts and crafts that she shared with her friends in the Hill Country Arts Foundation Auxiliary in Kerrville, as well as with a close knit group of friends in Upstate New York where she and Richard lived in the town of New Berlin for 20 years. Florence will be remembered by all for her kind and generous heart and for her great enthusiasm for life. She enjoyed nothing more than spending time with family and friends, laughing and telling stories.
Florence is survived by her adoring family: her husband, Dr. Richard N. Hood; her daughter, Laura Louise Hood; her son, James Edward Hood; her daughter-in-law, Nan Wolverton Hood; her grandchildren, Emily, Benjamin and William Hood; her sisters, Alice Brimberry, Sara Walker and Doris Perez; and her brother Eddie Brown.
