Orlie Collar

SIDNEY CENTER – Orlie W. “Pete” Collar, 75, of Sidney Center, passed away Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007 in the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.
Born in Laurens in October of 1931, Pete was the son of Orlie W. and Lara (Harrington) Collar, Sr. He grew up on the Collar farm near Hartwick while attending school in the Mt. Vision area. During his working years, Pete was head custodian of the Norwich Schools for 19 years prior to his retirement in 1997. He was a hard worker all his life, having done logging, haying, and horse trading. He built his own home, and had dabbled in making maple syrup. His sense of humor was “off the wall” and you either liked Pete’s cut and dried manner or didn’t. He was an avid participant in horse pulling and had been known to “talk a sick horse back” to health even after the vets had given up on it. Pete was also an avid sportsman and hunter. On Aug. 31, 1981, in Deposit, he married Marilyn Baker. They had resided in Sidney Center for the past 26 years.
Pete is survived by his wife, Marilyn Collar of Sidney Center; his children: William and Gloria Collar of Norwich, Edna Slaucenburg and husband Michael of Sherburne, Samuel Collar and wife Diane of Unadilla, David Collar and wife Diana of Mt. Upton; and stepchildren: James Jaindl and wife Janet of South Carolina, Lynn Bradley and husband James of Afton. Jay Jaindl and wife Sharon of Afton, Michael Jaindl and wife Jacqueline of Roscoe, and David Jaindl and wife Lisa of Afton. He is also survived by his brothers: Robert Collar and wife Shirley of Sherburne, and Roger Collar of California; many grand and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Pete was predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth Harris and brothers Benjamin and Howard Collar.
Private services and interment will be held at the convenience of Pete’s family. At Pete’s request, there will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be sent, with a notation “In memory of Orlie Collar,” to Friends of Bassett, 1 Atwell Road, Cooperstown, NY 13326; to the American Cancer Society, 31 Adams Ave., Endicott, NY 13760; or to the American Lung Assoc., Utica Area Office. 5096 Commercial Drive, Yorkville, NY 13495.
Arrangements are by the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.
