Calvin Locke


OXFORD – Calvin J. Locke, 81, of Oxford passed away on Oct. 6, 2007 at his home. 
He was born on Feb. 18, 1926 in Fabius, the son of the late Harry and Katie (Smith) Locke. On Oct. 25, 1947 in Cuyler, he married Shirley Waters, who survives.
Besides his wife of almost 60 years, Shirley he is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, James and Annabelle Locke of Buffalo, Jerry and Karen Locke of Oxford, Steven and JoAnne Locke of Bainbridge, and Jeff and Betsy Locke of Oxford. Twelve grandchildren, three step grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and three step great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.  He was predeceased by his daughter in law, Mary Marso Locke and his brothers, Stanley Locke and Clarence Locke.
Calvin was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving from 1944 to 1946.  Following the war he worked for GLF and managed several different stores.  In 1959 he and Shirley bought the farm in Oxford, now operated by their son Jeff.  He was a member of the United Church of Oxford for many years and a former member of the Oxford Lions Club and the Masons.  He was a dedicated blood donor, giving over 40 gallons.  He was also a member of numerous farm organizations.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family in Evergreen Cemetery, Fabius. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Church of Oxford or Hospice of Chenango County.
Arrangements are being provided by the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford.
