Lyle Potter Sr.


NORWICH – Lyle D. Potter Sr., 76, formerly from New Berlin and most recently of Norwich, went to be with the Lord Oct. 3, 2007.
Lyle was born in the Town of Columbus, the son of William and Mary (Goodspeed) Potter. He grew up in New Berlin, where he attended the local schools. Working on local farms in Edmeston and New Berlin in his youth, he continued to do so in his adult life. He and Elizabeth Irene Pittsley were married on May 22, 1954.
Following a brief illness, Lyle went to work for NBT in Norwich as a custodian in the Maintenance Department, remaining there for 10 years. Upon his retirement, he spent as much time as he could with his boys and grandchildren. Lyle is survived by two sons and their wives: Martin “Marty” and Pat Potter of Norwich, and Lyle Jr. and Terry Potter of South New Berlin; 7 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his close friends, Charlie and LeAnn Frayer, plus all the fine people at the Residential Health Care Facility of Chenango Memorial Hospital. Lyle was predeceased by his son, Lynn Potter, his sisters Lucille Speir and Wilma Potter and his brothers; Harold, Ren, Ron and Ken Potter.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Neil Bendixen, Pastor of the Canasawacta Valley Free Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Scribner Cemetery of New Berlin. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Friday evening from 6 to 9 p.m.
