Myrta Throop


SHERBURNE – Myrta Elizabeth Throop, 95, formerly of Sherburne, passed away Monday, Oct. 1, 2007 at Rome Memorial Hospital, Rome.
She was born Feb. 1, 1912 in the Town of Fenton, a daughter of Adelbert J. and Helen M. Niles Peck. On July 1, 1931, Myrta was united in marriage to Harold L. Throop in Earlville. They made their home in Sherburne until 1980 when they moved to Placida, Fla. and returned to Sherburne for the summer months. Harold predeceased her on June 14, 1991. Following that, Myrta returned to live in the Sherburne area. Mrs. Throop had been a secretary at TACO in Sherburne for 23 years, and then in the Economics Department of Colgate University in Hamilton until her retirement.
She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Sherburne, and a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star #631 of Sherburne.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Paul Roeser of Gouverneur;  daughter-in-law, Maureen Throop of Arcadia, FL; brother, Robert Peck of Lisle; six grandchildren and their spouses: Lori Throop, Lisa and Jeff Levy, all of New City; David and Wendy Throop of Marietta, GA; Stephen Roeser of Canton; Jacqueline and John Wheeler of North Syracuse, NY; Adrienne and Jeffrey Carrick of Tonawanda; 7 great-grandchildren; a niece and two nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Robert L. Throop in 2005, and a brother, Theodore Peck in 1967.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 9 from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne, followed by burial in the Sherburne West Hill Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
