Albert Deiss


NORWICH – Albert C. Deiss, 80, of Binghamton and formerly of Norwich, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007.
He was born the son of the late Joseph F. and Edna H. (Cook) Deiss. He was also predeceased by two brothers, Karl and Fred; and two sisters, Daisy Butts and Pauline Sheldon.
Albert is survived by his children, Cindy and Larry Hubschmitt of Oxford, Kurt Deiss of Cove, Ark., Joseph Deiss of Binghamton and Trudy and John Deiss-Savich of Johnson City; grandchildren, John and Terri Atwell, Stacy Atwell, Courtney Deiss, Lauren Savich; great-grandchildren, Corey, Cody, and Kelsie Atwell; also the mother of his children, Norma States of Boise, Idaho along with many nieces, nephews and feline companion, Gizmo.
Albert was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a one time farm owner in New Berlin and retired after many years of service with Don’s Automotive. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion Post #194, where he served as past commander and was a member of the 40 & 8. He was also very active with the Boy’s State. Albert was a handyman and carpenter, and he built his own house. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman. Albert loved to spend a lot of time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren by going to concerts, musicals, dance recitals, games, and graduations. Albert was a wonderful and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, family man and friend. He will be dearly missed by many.
A Memorial Service was held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango St., Port Dickinson. Burial will follow at the Chenango Valley Cemetery. Family and friends were invited to call at the funeral home on Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m.
