Sally Wackford


OXFORD – Sally Ann Wackford, 68, of Oxford, passed away Wednesday evening, Sept. 12, 2007 at her home.
Sally was born in May of 1939 in Greene, the daughter of Russell and Eleanor Peterson Sampson. She grew up in Greene where she attended and graduated from the Greene High School. Sally continued her education by attending beauty school where she earned her beautician's license. On Nov. 21, 1959 in Oxford she married Dale K. Wackford, who passed away May 3, 1999. She owned and operated her own beauty shop for many years out of her home in Oxford and subsequently worked as a hair dresser for the New York State Veterans’ Home.
Following her retirement Sally found time to enjoy and be devoted to her children, grandchildren and friends which all meant a great deal to her. She enjoyed traveling with her husband Dale and took many trips throughout the country. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and doing crossword puzzles. She was a member of the Fort Hill American Legion Post #376 of Oxford as well as the Lt. Warren E. Eaton American Legion Post #189 of Norwich.
Sally is survived by her companion, Zeke Sickler of Oxford; her children, Cynthia (Richard) Hansen of Earlville, Megan Eddy of Norwich, Kirsten Clement and companion Travis Hull of DeRuyter, Dale R. (Lael) Wackford of Oneonta and Ron (Dianne) Street of Warner Robins, Ga.; her 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Judy (Don) Rivenburgh of Alabama and Susan (Tom) Rogers of Florida, her brother Tom (Sandy) Sampson of Tennessee and special friends Buz and Cathy Jones of Norwich. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Besides her husband Dale, Sally was predeceased by her grandson Tyler Eddy and her brother John Sampson.
Private funeral services for Sally will be held at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday. Friends are invited to join Sally’s family at the Norwich Legion for lunch immediately after calling hours.
