SHERBURNE – Thomas John Newman, 32, formerly of Sherburne, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007 in Syracuse.
Born June 12, 1975 in Norwich, he was a son of Edward J. Jr, and Alice J. Burdick Newman. After graduating from Sherburne-Earlville High School in 1994, Tom attended Daemon College in Amherst. He began work for a computer company in Buffalo and transferred to the Las Vegas area. He worked on the west coast for several years and, most recently, worked to set up an off shore Call Center in Mumbai, India.
Tom was very family focused, and last July he moved back to Syracuse to be closer to his family and friends. He never lost his love of the beautiful Sherburne area. Besides his family and friends, Tom’s passion was baseball, and he has been an avid Atlanta Braves fan since early childhood.
Surviving are Tom’s mother and father, Ed and Alice Newman of Sherburne; his brother, Ed Newman of West Palm Beach, Fla.; his paternal grandfather, Ed Newman, Sr. of Sherburne; an aunt, Karen Rush of Sherburne; and an uncle, Jim Newman of Destin, Fla. Also surviving are several great aunts and cousins, and his Godparents, Ginny Chesebro and Rick Merhib. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Walt and Joy Burdick; his paternal grandmother, Genevieve Newman; and his uncles, Walter and David Burdick.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday from St. Malachy’s Church in Sherburne, followed by burial in St. Malachy’s Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, Tom’s family has requested that donations be made to a scholarship fund in his name, c/o Ed and Alice Newman, PO Box 374, Sherburne, NY 13460 for the benefit of a graduating senior at Sherburne-Earlville High School.
