Edmond Daviau


SHERBURNE – Edmond R. Daviau, 81, of Snyder Ave., formerly of Sherburne, passed away Monday, Sept.17, 2007 at his home.
He was born March 12, 1926 in Utica, a son of the late Norman and Anna Janus Daviau and was a graduate of Sherburne High School class of 1943. A veteran of World War II, Ed served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 until 1950 stationed in Seal Beach, Calif., and then in the reserve status for four years. When he was discharged from the service, he returned home to Sherburne where he worked for TACO for 36 years from 1948 to 1984. He then worked for the Benedict Corporation in Norwich from 1984 until his retirement in 1988.
Ed married Barbara Youngs McDaniel on July 19, 1947 in Sherburne. She predeceased him on Feb. 22, 1992.  He married Shirley Stone Racculia on Aug. 25, 1995.
Ed was active in sports playing basketball, baseball, football and tennis in high school, and later was a 3rd baseman on a fast pitch softball team. He was an avid bowler most of his life and was active in Norwich, Sherburne and Earlville bowling leagues for many years.
Ed was a communicant of St. Daniel’s Church in Syracuse. He was a member of the American Legion Post #876 of Sherburne; a former member of St. Malachy’s Church in Sherburne, and served as a Trustee of the Village of Sherburne for four years.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley; his two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Midge Daviau, Tom and Anne Daviau, all of Chittenango; his step children, Michael and Jane Racculila, North Syracuse; Susan and Edward Dunn, Liverpool; Thomas and Tish Racculia, Brewerton; Richard and Maggie Racculia, Liverpool; Kerry Racculia, Liverpool; a brother, Kenneth Daviau, Freedom, Pa.; an aunt, Gladys Northrup, Syracuse; seven grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A step-son, Frank Racculia, predeceased him on Jan. 30, 2006.
Friends may call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 South Main St., Sherburne on Thursday from noon until 2 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, followed by burial in Sherburne West Hill Cemetery.
