Chester Spencer

NORWICH – Chester Daniel Spencer, known as Chet, 33, of Norwich, passed away early Wednesday morning, Sept. 12, 2007.
The son of Daniel and Elizabeth “Ippie” (Jones) Spencer, Chet was born in Norwich in August of 1974. He grew up in the South New Berlin area, where he attended the South New Berlin school, graduating in 1993. Chet was a genuine free spirit, a naturalist and conservationist by nature, and loved being outdoors as much as he hated being inside. He claimed his head was full of useless information, and had an answer for everything. He was a good-hearted and easy-going man who would literally give you the shirt off his back or help in any way he could. Chet had an absolute passion for fishing, and said his greatest dream was to be a paid fisherman, like the ones he enjoyed watching on the television. He loved animals in general, and particularly his dog, Cody. Considered a good worker by his employers, Chet had worked for Caputo Brothers and Pires Flower Basket, and was currently employed by Electron Coil.
Chet is survived by his dad and mom, Daniel and Ippie Spencer of Norwich; his sisters, Wendi Turcotte and husband Neil of Norwich and Jodi St. Pierre of Richmondville; his special niece, Lizi Laymon and special nephew, William Miller, both of Norwich; aunts, uncles, cousins, and many, many friends; and his special friend and the most important part of his life, his dog, Cody.
Funeral services for Chet will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Kurt Funke of South New Berlin will officiate. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m.
Those truly wanting to remember Chet may consider planting a tree, sending a live plant, or making a memorial contribution to either “Friends of Rogers, Inc.,” c/o Rogers Environmental Education Center, 2721 State Highway 80, Sherburne, NY 13460; or the Chenango County SPCA, 6160 County Rd. 32, Norwich, NY 13815.
