Orville Jones


SHERBURNE – Orville B. Jones, 90, of Shawler Brook Rd., passed away Thursday, July 6, 2006 at the Chenango Memorial Hospital Residential Healthcare Facility, Norwich.
Born July 23, 1915 in the Town of Floyd, he was a son of Morrelle and Mary Fisher Jones. He was a veteran of U.S. Army during World War II, serving in Germany with the Third Armored Division. On Feb. 8, 1947, Orville was married to Elizabeth Morrison in Pennsylvania. She predeceased him on October 5, 1993. Moving to the Sherburne area in 1947, Mr. Jones operated a dairy farm in Columbus for 20 years, and had worked for T.A.C.O. in Sherburne for 6 years. From 1967 to 1987 he owned and operated the Sunoco service station on North Main St. in Sherburne. He then started Jones’ Flower Mart on Shawler Brook Rd. and operated it until he retired due to illness.
He was a former member of the American Legion Post #876 of Sherburne; and an honorary member of the Sherburne Lions Club.
Surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Orville M. “Sonny” and Gail Jones of Earlville; Daniel A. and Tricia Jones of Saratoga and William A. Jones of Sherburne; four grandchildren, Amie Bennett, Kellie Jones, William Troy Jones and Colton Lee Jones, and 2 great-grandchildren, Joshua and Hailie Bennett.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
Burial with military honors will be in West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne.
Friends are invited to call the funeral home on Sunday from noon until 2 p.m. prior to the service.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the Sherburne Emergency Squad, Sherburne, NY 13460.
Orville’s family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the CMH Residential Healthcare Facility for the loving and compassionate care given to him, and for the help and consideration given to them, during his stay there.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Wm. W. Kehoe Funeral Home, Sherburne.
