Beatrice Cummings


OXFORD – Beatrice I. Cummings of Oxford passed away on Sept. 7, 2007 at Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich. 
She was born on Nov. 4, 1910 in Smithville, the daughter of the late Claude and Mabel (Marvin) Rathbone. On Feb. 16, 1929 in Oxford she married Floyd Cummings, who died on June 28, 2000.
 She is survived by her children, Claude (Ike) and Ann Cummings of Oxford, Carl and Arlene Cummings of Oxford, Clifford and Jane Cummings of Bethlehem, Pa., and Betty Ann Root of Greene; her brother, Claude Rathbone of Indiana; her sisters, Myrtle Maricle of Oregon, Mary Maricle of New Jersey, Doris Vendula of New Jersey, Wanda Burlingame of South New Berlin, and Edna Sutton; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren also survive.  She was predeceased by her son Clinton L. Cummings, her grandson, Craig Root, great grandson, Justin Brice, son in law, James Root, Brother Delbert Rathbone and her sisters, Grace Brazee and Dorothy Foster.
 She retired from the NYS Veterans’ Home and attended the United Church of Oxford.  She loved to cook and was well known for her bread and cinnamon buns.
 Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford with the Rev. Ralph Hinman, pastor of the Bible Baptist Church of Norwich officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Oxford.
Friends called at the Behe Funeral Home, Oxford on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. 
Memorial contributions may be made to the United Church of Oxford, the Oxford Fire Department Emergency Squad or Hospice of Chenango County.
