Herbert Burns Jr.


NORWICH – Herbert Henry Burns Jr., hailing from Norwich, passed away Friday, Aug. 31, 2007.
He was the son of Herbert H. Burns, Sr. and Mildred Conkin Burns and brother of Alveretta. Herbert grew up in the house his father built on Plymouth Ave., Norwich. He enjoyed playing many hours in the “crick” behind this house. “Pete,” as he was called, pitched in the state championship baseball game for Norwich High School in Cooperstown. Pete was awarded a full football scholarship to Colgate university where he was chief cook and bottle washer at his fraternity. Herbert met his wife, Patricia Carol James, daughter of Homer F. James, at Syracuse University and was married in a small chapel at Saranac Lake. They later settled in the San Francisco Bay area with their three children, Lorri, Jimmy and Brenda. Pete received his Juris Doctorate from Hastings Law School in Califoirnia and practiced corporate real esate law in California and Washington, D.C.
After being widowed, Pete retired at the tender age of 44 and enjoyed the rest of his days with his son and closest confidant, James, and close friend Sandy. He is survived by his son James, daughters, Lorri “Worg” Burns and Brenda “Beez” Watkins, sister Alveretta “Weed” Burns Tronolone, and grandson Alexander James Watkins.
