Evelyn Thompson


NORWICH – Evelyn Mae Thompson, 89, of Norwich, passed away Friday afternoon, Aug. 31, 2007 in the Valley View Manor Nursing Home of Norwich.
Evelyn was born in Vallonia Springs, in December of 1917, the daughter of Jay and Emma Pulis Terry. She was a graduate of the Afton High School and also took a year of post graduate school. On July 25, 1959 she married Kenneth L. Thompson, who passed away in 2001. Evelyn had worked for the W.T. Grant Co. from November 1955 until June of 1962 at which time she began working with her husband in the operation of their business, the Thompson Fuel Service of Oxford. In 1970, Evelyn and Ken made their home on Florida until his death at which time she moved back to Norwich in 2002.
Evelyn is survived by her son, Earl Meade and his wife Marilyn of Oxford; her daughter Ruth White and husband Stuart of Australia; her sister Priscilla Bunt and husband Robert of Afton; and her son-in-law Vance Joyner of North Carolina. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Brian Meade of Oxford, Teresa Hollister of Chenango Forks, Ronald and Phillip Joyner; her great-grandchildren: Casey Hollister, Justin and Jane Ellen Joyner, Kevin and Holly Joyner; her niece and nephew, Howard and Helen Bunt; and a special friend, Sandra Ingraham of Norwich. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Besides her husband Kenneth, Evelyn was predeceased by her daughters Hazel Hatch and Barbara Joyner, her sister Marie Anthony, and her brothers Fee and Clarence Terry.
Graveside services for Evelyn will be held at 11 a.m. Friday from the Mt. Hope Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
