Frank Dolgos

NORWICH – Frank J. Dolgos, 80, of Norwich, passed away peacefully on Friday, Aug. 31, 2007 at the Wilson Regional Medical Center in Johnson City with his family at his side.
Born Feb. 9, 1927 in Mt. Kisco, Frank was the son of Julius and Esther (Illar) Dolgos. He graduated in 1945 from Norwich High School, and joined the U.S. Army, stationed in the Philippines until his honorable discharge in 1947.  He then attended the Indiana Institute of Technology, graduating in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. After graduation he went to work for the New York City Board of Water Supply. In 1959, Frank changed jobs to raise his family in Norwich, joining the New York State Department of Transportation as a civil engineer, retiring in 1988.
Frank was a member of the Lost Pond Club, a past member of the Norwich Elks, and was a sixty-three year member of the United Church of Christ, First Congregational of Norwich. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing, as well as vegetable gardening, and any time spent outdoors. He also enjoyed traveling, most recently having visited Alaska, Hawaii and Colorado with his wife, Maude. Most of all, Frank was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
On June 13, 1959 he married Maude Harrington in the Brisben Baptist Church.  Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Diane Somich and her husband Peter, Debbie Phelps and her husband Joe, and David Dolgos and his wife Christine, all of Norwich, and his grandchildren Peter John and Frank Somich, and Marissa and Briana Phelps. Also surviving are a brother Ted Dolgos of Norwich, his cousin Lillian Connine and her husband Robert of Florida, a brother in law, Henry Bennett of Norwich, and several nieces and nephews. Frank was predeceased by his brothers Julius and Joe Dolgos, sisters Helen Rovig and Ida Bennett, and cousin Charles Groff.
It was Frank’s wish that a private graveside funeral service be held at the convenience of his family, and there be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Frank’s memory may be made to the National Wildlife Federation.
The funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Funeral Home.  Condolences may be sent to Frank’s family by visiting the funeral home website at: www.wilsonfh.com.
