Robert Davy


COVENTRY – Robert Q. Davy, 84, passed away on Friday, Aug. 31, 2007, at Chenango Memorial Hospital after an illness.
He was born the son of Warren and Lena Davy on Feb. 5, 1923. Both parents have since gone to be with the Lord. Robert then married Catherine Mertz on March 13, 1943 in Bainbridge; both enjoyed 64 years of wedded bliss. He is survived by his loving wife and 5 sons: Catherine Davy of Coventry, Robert R. Davy of Afton, Frederick C. Davy of Canastota, Michael J. Davy of Afton, Richard A. Davy of Coventry, and Patrick W. Davy & Rebecca of Coventry. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, several nephews and nieces.
Robert was a Charter Member of the Coventry Fire Department for over 40 years. He also was the Coventry Town Assessor, a Coventry Town Councilman and Coventry Town Supervisor for 24 years, and the County Chairman in Chenango County for 4 years. He also was a farmer for many years and belonged to the Farmers Co-Op. Robert did love his sports. From 1940 to 1960, he helped start the Coventry Town Baseball Team and helped create the field in Coventry, which was named Davy Field. Robert played many other sports too: golf, horseshoes, baseball and bowling. In 1959, he won the Binghamton Press Bowling Tournament.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Dorothy Memorial Home, 121 Main Street, Afton, with the Rev. Veleda Banta, Coventry Methodist Church pastor officiating. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery, Afton.
A time of visitation will be on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
