A. Charles Clark


NORWICH – A. Charles Clark, 85, of Beach Haven, N.J., formerly from Norwich, passed away on Monday, Aug. 27, 2007.
Charles (Charlie) was born in Philadelphia, Pa. and grew up in Hasbrouck Heights, N.J. he graduated from Syracuse University and completed a master’s in business at New York University. Charlie enlisted in the Army during World War II serving in Paris and London. He was Director of Human Resources at Norwich Eaton Pharmaceuticals for 34 years. When he first came to Norwich, he worked with the Boy Scouts and coached Little League. He also served on many committees in the community of Norwich devoted to local issues. Charlie was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing golf. He loved the beach and swimming in the ocean. After he retired, Charlie volunteered at the hospital in Norwich and traveled all over the United States in an RV. In 1995, he moved to his favorite home away from home - Long Beach Island in New Jersey. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Beach Haven Terrace and a volunteer at the Southern Ocean County Hospital. For 6 years, he worked at Fantasy Island, an amusement park on the Island and enjoyed helping young children on and off the rides. Charlie’s daughters, Nancy and Donna, never came up with a project that he wasn’t willing to tackle from painting and wallpapering to building furniture.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley E. Clark of Beach Haven, N.J.; his daughter, Nancy Clark of New York Mills, his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Scott Smith of Monroeton, Pa.; his granddaughters, Erica Smith of Germantown, Pa. and Alison Smith of Monroeton, Pa.; his grandson, Nicholas Smith of Monroeton, Pa.; his sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Karl Bremner of Westborough, Mass.; two nieces, Carol Doyle and Jeanne Hinrichs and a nephew, Robert hansen.
Charlie was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Ethyl Clark and a brother-in-law, William Hansen.
In honor of his many faithful canine companions, Spot, Penny, Thud, Freddie and Shelley, the family asks that donations in his memory be made to Best Friends Animal Society, 5001 Angel Canyon Road, Kanab, Utah 84741.
A memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church in Beach Haven, N.J. on Friday at 11 a.m. Friends may visit with the family from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bugbee-Riggs Funeral Home, 12th Street and Blvd., Ship Bottom, NJ 08008.
