Fred Brewer


McDONOUGH – Fred G. “Pops” Brewer, 61, of McDonough, passed away early Thursday morning, Aug. 23, 2007, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Born in 1945 in Norwich, Pops was the son of Fred G. and Jean (Collins) Brewer Sr. Growing up in the McDonough area, he attended the local schools, and following his education, he served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. Pops returned home after his honorable discharge and began working as an auto mechanic. A jack-of-all-trades, he was talented with cars and had held several different mechanic’s jobs over his years, working with Barrows and Sons of Oxford. He was a well-liked and likable man with a great sense of humor, who enjoyed being called “Pops.”
Pops is survived by his children and their spouses: Yvonne and Richard LaViola of Greene, Gregory and Rhonda Brewer of McDonough, and Fred and Daisy Brewer of Roscoe; his sister, Joanne Herrick and husband Nick of McDonough; brothers: Gilbert Brewer and wife Donna of McDonough, and Bruce Brewer of Oxford; and sisters-in-law Kitty Brewer ofMcDonough and Bonnie Brewer of Norwich. Also surviving are Pops’ grandchildren: Jeremy, Sabrina, and Gregory Brewer, Richard LaViola, and Avery and Aydin Brewer; his great granddaughter, Emma Wilkes, the mother of his children, JoAnn Brewer; and several nieces and nephews. Pops was predeceased by his brothers. Dale, Stephen, and Larry Brewer.
At Pops’ request, there will be no formal funeral services. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
