Virginia Marango


NORWICH – Virginia Marango, 82, formerly of the Norwich/South Plymouth area and most recently of Morris, passed away early Wednesday morning, Aug. 15, 2007 in Morris, at the home of her daughter, with whom she had lived for the past two years.
Born in Norwich in 1924, to DeVillo and Ethel (Nightengale) Davenport, Virginia grew up in the South Plymouth area and attended the local schools. On May 10, 1945, in Norwich, she married Angelo Marango, Sr. Virginia was an easy going, very loving and caring woman who loved her family. Though she never worked outside her home, she was a hard worker who would help as she could on the family farm and, in addition, helped raise many people’s children while babysitting for them in her own home. In quiet moments, she liked to work in her flower garden.
Virginia is survived by her children: Louis Marango and wife Joan, and Roger Marango, all of Norwich; Angelo Marango and wife Joann of South Plymouth; Gary Marango and wife Marilyn of Norwich, Linda Pegg of Morris, and Mary Marango Whaley of Norwich; her grandchildren: Michael Marango and wife Peggy of North Norwich; Julie Binelli and husband Brian of Norwich, Christine Shuman of Sherburne, Jeremy Marango and companion Kathy Manwarren of Norwich, Brandon Whaley and wife Belinda of Plymouth, Jennifer Marango of Norwich, Scott Pegg of Morris, Adam Whaley and wife Sara of Norwich, Patrick Pegg and companion Victoria White of Morris, Janice Marango and companion Travis Smith of Norwich, Pamela Pegg and companion Ryan Wing of New Lisbon; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Marie Davenport; sister-in-law, Emily Davenport; nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends, and her dog, Ginny. Virginia was predeceased by her husband, Angelo Marango, on April 4, 1983; by her children, Richard and Patty; son-in-law, Richard Pegg; and brothers Herman and Leo Davenport.
Funeral services for Virginia will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Virginia’s family has requested that memorial contributions be sent to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820.
