Erna Denz


OXFORD – Erna Denz, 97, formerly of Oxford and Freeville, passed away on Aug. 13, 2007 at Cortland Memorial Hospital. 
She was born in Cappel, Germany on July 23, 1910 the daughter of the late Wilhelm and Anna (Sohl) Siebke. On Sept. 30, 1934 she married Alois Denz, who passed away on June 26, 1982.
She is survived by her children and spouses, Helena and Reuben Bland of Virginia Beach, Va., Robert and Carol Denz of Greene, Albert and Linda Denz of Oxford and Linda and David Putnam of Freeville; her grandchildren, Greg and Jennifer Genung of Pensacola, Fla., Tobin and Micki Genung of Atlanta, Ga., Amber Genung of Alexandria, Va., Jason and Teri Bland of Freeport, Ill., Kristen and Wayne Kayata of Crestview, Fla., Christopher Denz of Boston, MA, Alison and Dan Rude of Sterling, Va., Jessica and Bill Kelsey of Oxford, Nathan and Jessica Denz of Oxford, Amy and Lance Thorne of Oxford, Alaina Denz of Oxford, Erica Putnam of Freeville, Daniel Putnam of Freeville, and Jennifer Putnam of Schaghticoke; her sister, Elsbeth Volk of Sault Ste. Marie, Canada, her brothers, Emil Siebke of Sault Ste. Marie, Canada, and Heinrich Siebke of Dorum, Germany; five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.  Her brother Ernst Siebke predeceased her.
At age 18, Erna came to the United States from Germany on the ship, Berlin. She resided in Brooklyn at the time she met her husband and prior to settling on their dairy farm in Oxford. She was a charter member of the Willing Hands Club in Oxford, a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Oxford and a former member of the Altar Rosary Society of the church.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph’s Church in Oxford.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. 
Memorial contributions may be made to Elizabeth Brewster House, 41 S. Main St., Homer.
