NORWICH – Margaret N. White, 89, of Polkville Hill Road, Norwich, passed away Tuesday evening, Aug. 7, 2007 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born at the family home in 1918, Margaret was the daughter of Claude and Iva (Thornton) Nye. She spent her entire life in the Norwich area and was a 1937 graduate of the Norwich High School. Deciding to further her education she attended the Ridley-Lowell Business School in Endicott where she earned her business degree.
Returning home to Norwich she worked a period of time for the Woolworth Dept. Store. On June 26, 1945 in Norwich she married Darrell K. “D.K.” White, who passed away June 6, 1988. Margaret was employed by the Norwich Shoe Co. for over 30 years where she worked as an accounting clerk, retiring in 1987. Not one to be idle and a person who enjoyed helping others, Margaret began working for Broome Developmental in Norwich as a Senior Companion, a job in which she found great enjoyment and fullfilment for over 10 years.
Above all else, Margaret was dedicated to her family and enjoyed spending time with her granchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling to different zoos with her family and always enjoyed a great parade.
Margaret is survived by her children: Raymond (Mollie) White of Earlville and Craig (Connie) White of Norwich, her 11 grandchildren; Wendy (Gerry) Edwards, Wade (Wendy) White, Ward (Michelle) White, Wynne (Brian) Furner, Warren White, Wanda White, Winifred (Greg) Marshall, Wesley White, Cathleen (John ) Albrecht, Alen White and Chad (Brenda) White. Also surviving are 19 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Margaret will be held at 11 a.m. Friday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeremy Stopford will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at 11.
