NORWICH – Evelyn (Evie) Armstrong Rice, 51, formerly of Norwich and Arizona, passed away Saturday, July 21, 2007 at the home of her daughter in DeFuniak Springs, Fla..
Evie was born May 6, 1956 in Norwich the daughter of Dean Armstrong and Virginia (Ginger) Favalaro Adams. She grew up in Norwich and attended the Norwich schools. Following her graduation Evie attended the Triple Cities Beauty School where she earned her beautician’s license. While living in Norwich she worked with her grandmother, Evelyn Mackey and mother Ginger Adams, in Evelyn’s Beauty Shop on Grove Ave. in Norwich. She had also worked for Champion Products and Beadle’s Lounge. Upon leaving Norwich, Evie moved to Arizona where she made her home for over 23 years. She had just recently moved back East to make her home with her daughter, Nancy Phillips-Hill, in Florida.
Evie loved to cook and enjoyed working outdoors. She was also an avid reader and cherished spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter.
Evie is survived by her children: Nancy Phillips-Hill of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., and Shawn Bennett of New York; her granddaughter, Taylor Hill; her sisters, Cynthia Fox of Norwich and Renae (William) Wakefield of Oxford. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was predeceased by her mother Ginger Adams and her brother Timothy Morrell in 1987.
Memorial services for Evie will be held at 2 p.m. Friday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Lester Smith, pastor of St. Malachy’s Roman Catholic Church of Sherburne, will officiate. Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery of Oxford.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m.
