Marian Poole

NORWICH – Marian E. Poole, 64, long-time resident of Mt. Upton, passed away early Saturday morning, July 28, 2007, at her home.
Born Feb. 12, 1943, in Grand Gorge, Marian was the daughter of Harold and Carrie (Ruling) Crawford. Growing up in the Unadilla area, she attended the local schools, and married Wallace Poole on Feb. 25, 1967. The Pooles moved to Shumway Hill Road in 1969, making their home there for over 30 years while raising their family. Marian had lived in her present home for the past four years. A supervisor for 25 years for the Norwich Knitting Mill and its successor, Champion Products, she had also worked as a nurse’s aide for the Valley View Manor Nursing Home of Norwich and, most recently, for the New York State Veterans’ Home.
Marian's life was her family and home. She loved all who knew her and they loved her in return. She had the gift of being able, in her own way, of getting things her own way. Her home, always open to all, was where she enjoyed her family, friends, dogs, cats and feeding the birds. Away from home, Marian enjoyed spending time at her camp on Cayuga Lake and would always take along her pets. While at the camp, she enjoyed the beauty of nature and watching the animals.
Marian is survived by her children: Kenneth (Maryann) Head of Preston, Michael (Mama) Poole of Cortland, Angela (Walter) Crawford of Mt. Upton, Eddie Poole and companion Mary of South Otselic, Wallace (Sonya) Poole Jr. of Hazlehurst, Ga., James Poole of Florida and Larry Head of Mt. Upton; her grandchildren: Karen, Kelly, Thomas, Koty, Kylie, Joshua, Matthew, Chris, Jessica, Matthew, Joseph, Ed Jr., Jefferson, Thomas, Keilgh, Kara, and Chelsey; and four great grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Evelyn Cottone of Prattsville, and Melvina Epply and friend Lynn Teelon of Bainbridge, her brothers: Leslie Crawford of Seattle, Wash., James (Lynn) Crawford of Wells Bridge, George (Etta) Crawford also of Wells Bridge, Wayne (Lela) Russell of Oneonta, and Howard (Joan) Russell of Newnan, Ga. Survivors also include her aunt, Marian Miller of Denton, N.C., her brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and, last but not least, her two dogs and best friends Georgie and Ozzie.
Marian was predeceased by her parents, Harold and Carrie Crawford; her second parents, Lawrence and Georgia Russell; her husband Wallace, who passed away in April of 1995; her grandson, Korey Christopher Head; her sisters, Alice Mashburn and Nina Buffalo; and her brother, LaVerne Crawford.
