“joe” Conway L. Hicks, Sr.


 SMYRNA – “Joe” Conway L. Hicks, Sr., 64, formerly of Smyrna, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at his home in Chesapeake, OH.
He was born on November 10, 1942 in North Norwich and attended local schools. “Big Joe,” as he was affectionately known, was a Smyrna area resident most of his life, and was a logger for the Edmonds Lumber Co. until his retirement. He had moved to Ohio a short time ago. He was a straightforward and practical man with a great sense of humor, who enjoyed hunting and was an avid fisherman.
Surviving are his mother and father, Edna May and Daniel Kirk, Sr. of Sherburne; three daughters and sons-in-law, Wendy and Gary Greiner of Cold Brook; Holly and Harold Lorimer of Sherburne; Carissa and Marco Whisman of West Winfield; a son and daughter-in-law, “Joe”, Jr. and Shari Hicks of Hedgesville, WV; a sister, Lillian Hicks of Sherburne; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Daniel Jr. and LuAnn Kirk of Greene and Bernard J. Kirk of Clovis, CA; the mother of his children and her husband, Dawn and Earl David of Cassville; 11 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; his close friends Elaine Walrod and Chip (Castle) McHenry, his closest friends, Charlotte and Denny Symonds and their family of Huntington, WV; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne, followed by burial in the South Brookfield Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday from 5-8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, his family has requested that contributions in his memory be made to the Brookfield Cemetery Association, PO Box 219, Leonardsville, NY 13364.
Dad, our confidant, our best friend, we’ll miss you. Pop, we love you.
