David “dave” L. Moon


NORWICH – David L. “Dave” Moon, 64, of Reservoir Hill Road, Norwich, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2007 in the Wilson Hospital in Johnson City.
Born in Norwich on December 17, 1942, Dave grew up in the area and attended school in Norwich and Sherburne. In his younger days he loved driving racing cars. In later years, he enjoyed going to see the races at 5 Mile Point and Thunder Mountain in Cortland, and was particularly fond of watching NASCAR racing on television. Dave also liked camping and fishing on the St. Lawrence. A hard worker, he had been a butcher for over 40 years, working in slaughterhouses in Norwich and Oriskany Falls. His last employment was with Gold Medal Packing in Rome. On July 24, 1982, in Norwich, he married Rosie Jane Hollenbeck.
Dave is survived by his wife, Rosie Moon of Norwich; his children: Daniel Moon of Jacksonville, FL, Scott Moon of Salisbury, MD, and Matthew Moon of Jeffersonville, VT; by his step-children: Rose and her husband Butch of Oneonta, Paul Potter and wife Terri of Smyrna, Dwight Potter of Binghamton, Karen Pope and companion Tim Freer of Guilford, Vickie Dionne and husband Roger of Whitensville, Mass., Grace Gray and husband Billy of South Otselic, and John Richards of Norwich. He is also survived by his 18 grandchildren, several great grandchildren; his uncle, Ralph Moon and wife Angle of North Carolina; and his beloved cat, Jacks. Dave was predeceased by his dad and step-mom, Lloyd and Viola Moon.
Funeral services for Dave will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 14, from the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeff Hale, Pastor of the Broad St. United Methodist Church of Norwich, will officiate. Interment will follow in the North Norwich Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home on Sat. from noon until the service at 1 p.m..
