SOUTH NEW BERLIN – Marian W. Smith, 81, long-time resident of South New Berlin, passed away Thursday afternoon, July 12, 2007, in the Valley View Manor Nursing Home.
The daughter of Charles and Aline (White) Wilkes, Marian was born in North Norwich on May 2, 1926. Growing up in North Norwich, she attended the Norwich schools. In her earlier years, she had been an employee of the Keith Clark Corporation in Sidney.
Marian is survived by her step-children: Samuel H. Smith and wife Gladys of Lexington, NC, Eugene F. Smith of Salisbury, NC, Alan B. Smith and wife Barbara of Morris, and Grace L. Acker of Johnson City; by her sister, Bernice Whaley of Smyrna; 13 step-grandchildren, 17 step-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Robert Collier of Norwich, and her special friends in the Lakin-Harris Trailer Courts of White Store. Marian was predeceased by her husband, Everett Smith, in 1987; her step-son, Paul Smith, in 1968; and her sister and brother, Eleanor Collier and Richard Wilkes.
Funeral services for Marian will be held from the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home on Sunday, July 15, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. George Herrick of the South New Berlin Baptist Church officiating. Interment on Monday will be in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery in Oneonta. Friends are invited to call at the R. J. Funeral Home on Sunday from 1 p.m. until the service at 2 p.m.
