Gladys Schraft


NORWICH – Gladys E. Schraft, 98, of Plymouth Street, passed away peacefully to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 5, 2007 at the home of her daughter, Carol, in South Plymouth.
Gladys was born on Nov. 18, 1908 in Lebanon, the daughter of John and Libby (Hibbard) Roberts.  She received her schooling in Sherburne and then worked at the former Norwich Knitting Mill.  Following her marriage, she worked at Norwich-Eaton Pharmaceuticals, retiring in the 1950’s. Gladys later worked for the late Dr. Kinney and also was a caregiver for several local families.  She will be remembered for her love for her family and all of her pets ... dogs, cats and birds.  Gladys also wrote poetry for various people and enjoyed completing crossword puzzles.
 She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Norwich.
 In December of 1927, in Utica, Gladys married Edward M. Schraft who died in 1995.  She is survived by her son, Ernest Schraft and his wife, Shelvy, of Norwich; three daughters, Carol Spalutto of Norwich, Norma Lapuszynski of Otselic and Elizabeth Davis and her husband, Harold, of Norwich; thirteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and many, many great-great grandchildren.  She was predeceased by a brother, Emyrs Roberts.
 Funeral services for Gladys will be private.  Burial will take place in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
 Contributions in memory of Gladys may be made to Hospice of Chenango County, the SPCA, the First Baptist Church or the Assembly of God Church.
