Richard Olsen


AFTON – Richard H. Olsen 73 of Afton passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at his home.
He was born September 16, 1933 son of the late Henry J. and Astrid (Jacobson) Olsen in Staten Island. He attended Tottenville High School and Brooklyn Tech. Richard served his county in the United States Army from 1954 to 1957. He was employed as a construction superintendent prior to retiring.
Richard was a master carpenter and avid gardener. He enjoyed fishing and baseball. Richard was quite talented in his younger years, he was scouted by professional baseball teams. He was a generous man and known as a hard worker.
He is survived by his companion, his dog Deuce; four children: Kyle Olsen, Bainbridge; Leslie and William Ives, Bainbridge; Suzanne and Jay O’Brien, Binghamton; and Eric and Elizabeth Olsen, Earlville; a son-in-law, Michael Johnson, Bainbridge; grandchildren: Jessica, Christopher and Kody Olsen, Charles Chapman, Alexis and Scott Craver, Cole, Ayden and Balin Olsen, Matthew Johnson; great-grandchildren: Samuel and Isabelle Johnson; sister and brother-in-law, Lillian and Raymond Herdeker, Afton; many nieces, nephews and cousins
He is also predeceased by a daughter, Lorraine Johnson and sister, Barbara Olsen.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main St. Sidney.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 30, at the United Presbyterian Church in Afton at Noon. Rev. Lynn Shepherd officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the NYS Veterans’ Home Resident Fund 4211 State Highway 220 Oxford, NY 13830.
