Glenn Spencer


NORWICH – Glenn D. Spencer, 80, of Norwich, passed away early Tuesday morning, June 26, 2007 in the Gilmour Health Care Facility, where he had made his home for a little over a year.
Born on June 8, 1927, in Delhi, where he grew up and attended the local schools, Glenn was the son of LeRoy and Eunice (Osterhout) Spencer. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country in Korea, after which he returned home. On Aug. 11, 1962, in Oxford, Glenn married Catherine Kay Call. During the years he and his family lived in Norwich, Glenn worked as a truck and cab driver for a time. A very talented and skillful mechanic, he was employed by Earl Wightman in Wightman’s Garage for 30 years, and spent 25 years working as a mechanic and in the production lines for Procter & Gamble. A man who saved everything, Glenn loved garage sales, the earlier the better, and was a collector of “oddities.”
Glenn is survived by his son, Daniel Spencer and wife Ippie of Norwich, and daughters Jacqueline Spencer of Norwich and Cristine Hall of North Norwich; his sister, Virginia Berg; 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and three nephews. Glenn was predeceased by his wife, Kay, on May 31, 2001.
Funeral services for Glenn will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeremy Stopford of Norwich will officiate
Interment will be at a later date, at the convenience of Glenn’s family, in St. Paul’s Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Friday from 11 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m.
