Paul Smith Sr.


CORTLAND – Paul E. Smith, Sr., 62, of Cortland, passed away suddenly on Friday, June 15, 2007, at Cortland Regional Medical Center.
 Paul was born in the Town of Cortlandville on Oct. 10, 1944, a son of the late Ivan, Sr. and Roselea Wood Smith.  A lifetime resident of the area, he was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed watching his favorite driver, Jeff Gordon.  He was very involved with the Adult Day Care at Cortland Regional and with Catholic Charities.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and, when given the opportunity, making speeches which would include his favorite quotes for the benefit of his children.
 He is survived by his wife, Loretta Smith, of Cortland; his children, Paul (Karen) Smith, Jr., Chris (Amy) Smith, and Robin (Gary) Marsh; his stepchildren, Belle (Alan) Overbaugh, Lyle (Kim) Young, Glenn (Wayne) Rathbun, and Leon Rathbun.  He is also survived by his siblings, Ivan (Mary) Smith, Jr., Larry (Donna) Smith, Roberta (Frank) Miles, Dick Smith, Verna (Ron) Walker, Eleanor (Ted) Perry, Hazel (Bob) Cummings, Jerry (Linda) Smith, Grace Chamberlin, Glenda (Doug) Whitehead, Danny (Sandy) Smith, Dorothy (Steve) Perry, and Clyde (Dianne) Smith; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandson; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
 He was predeceased by his brothers, Lester, Chester, and Ronald.
 A funeral service will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, on at 1 p.m. Wednesday with Rev. Ina Warren officiating.  Burial will be in Upper Lisle Cemetery at the convenience of the family. 
The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the start of the service at 1 p.m.
