Michael Papelino


SHERBURNE – Michael C. Papelino, 65, passed away unexpectedly on May 24, 2007 at his home in Richmond, Va.
He was born April 4, 1942 in Petersburg, Va. son of Carmen and Lena (Presnell) Papelino. He attended school at Sherburne Central School graduating in 1960. He then attended the State of New York University at Oneonta. After college Mike started his working career in sales for businesses such as the Sears and Roebuck Catalog store and W.T. Grant Company both located in Norwich. Shortly after his father’s death Mike started the balance of his career as a Cobbler managing Carmen’s Shoe Repair on American Ave. in Norwich. Mike owned and operated the business in Norwich until moving it to the Richmond Va. area in 1979. His business was called The Village Cobbler and was located in Chester, Va. He later sold the business in 1997. He then went to work in a Red Wing Shoe store where he continued to perform cobbler work in Richmond until his retirement in December 2006. Mike, like his father, was noted for the special shoe orthopedic work he did.
Acting in theatrical plays, television commercials and doing voiceovers were all things Mike enjoyed to do. While living in the upstate New York area, he acted in several Sherburne Music Theater Society productions as well as productions with both the Norwich and Hamilton Players. Then, while in the Richmond area he acted in many productions with the John Rolfe Players and has appeared in numerous television commercials in the Richmond area. Mike was an excellent cook and loved to make especially Italian dishes for his friends and family.
 He is survived by his mother, Lena of the New York State Veterans’ Home in Oxford; two sons Steven of Clovis, New Mexico and Kyle of Colonial Heights, Va.; two daughters Lee Ann of New Berlin and Maria of Richmond, Va.; a sister JoAnn of Sherburne and brother Jan of Norwich; a grandson; two nieces and several cousins.
His father Carmen and his brother Thomas predeceased him.
Graveside services for family and friends will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Paul Funeral Home of Madison.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions in Mike’s name be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
