Warren Smith


NORWICH – Warren Burtis Smith, 85, of La Crescenta passed away May 1, 2007 in Reno, Nevada due to complications from hip surgery. 
Warren was born in Syracuse on Sept. 2, 1921 to Gerald and Helen Smith.  He lived in Brooklyn for 10 years and then moved with his family to Norwich where he attended school. He went to Drew University for three years and then enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve, where he served for one year, followed by three years of service in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, during which he was a naval aviator in the South Pacific during World War II. Following his military service he went on to finish his education at the UCLA where he met and married his wife of 59 years, Constance Buhl Smith.
Warren worked as a chemist for 46 years at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in Santa Monica. He was a member of the Elks Club, American Legion, the American Rocket Society and the U.S. Power Squadron. Warren was very proud of his work in science and he also enjoyed spending time with his family. He was passionate about sailing, camping and traveling.  After his retirement from McDonnell Douglas, Warren enjoyed doing volunteer work for the Burbank Aviation Museum, “Portal of The Folded Wing” and also at Verdugo Hills Hospital in Glendale, Calif.  Warren and Connie moved two years ago to Northern California where they have been enjoying retirement. 
Warren is survived by his wife Connie and his two children, Larry Smith and Hallie Cimmarusti; his grandchildren, Stacy, Scott, Ralph, Larry and Loretta; and his great grandchildren, Isabella and Savanna.
