Rosamond Brady

SHERBURNE – Rosamond E. Brady, 88, of Sherburne, and recently a resident of Eden Heights, an adult residential community in Olean, passed away on June 20, 2006 at the Waters of Allegany.
She was born March 26, 1918 in Malone, a daughter of George P. and Elizabeth O. Dumas South. On Oct. 1, 1946 in Malone, she married Francis Robert Brady, who predeceased her after 54 years of marriage on Dec. 7, 2000.
Mrs. Brady was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Ursuline Academy in Malone, and SUNY Canton. As a child and young adult, she worked with her family in the operation of South’s Bakery, a much loved home-based bakery business in Malone. She was a dietician by education, but devoted her life to her family, friends and neighbors. She continued the family tradition of baking for many years, and was well known in the Sherburne area for baked goods and other culinary delights she created and shared with many other people. An accomplished musician, she was a pianist and an accordionist. Her love of children was returned by generations of young people in her neighborhood, to who she was “Aunt Rosamond.” She loved life and spent as much of it as possible dancing with her husband.
Mrs. Brady was a devoted Catholic and a communicant for over 50 years at St. Malachy’s Church in Sherburne, where she was a senior member and past president of the Altar and Rosary Society and taught in the religious education program for many years. She and her husband also counseled Catholic couples planning to marry. Additionally, she was a member and past officer of the Sherburne American Legion Auxiliary and was active in the American Cancer Society.
She is survived by her two sons, Thomas C. (Joan M) Brady of Great Valley, and Frank R. Brady of Sherburne; five grandchildren, Erin M. Brady (Matthew Swenson) of Great Valley, Ryan T. (Kristin M.) Brady and Trevor M. Brady of Salamanca, Christi Brady (Thomas) Colletti of Colonial Heights, Virginia and Angie Brady (Daniel) Sweringen of Petersburg, Va.; and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister, Katherine Fee, her brother Carl South, and her niece, Elizabeth Ann Fee.
Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Malachy’s Church, East State St., Sherburne.
Burial will be in St. Malachy’s Parish Cemetery, Sherburne.
