David Busse-smith


NORWICH – Rev. Dr. David B. Busse-Smith passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 19, 2007 at Wilson Hospital, Johnson City after a courageous battle with cancer.
 He was born in Point Pleasant, N.J. and spent the first five years of his life in Greenwich, Conn. before moving to Wyckoff, N.J. until his adulthood.  He served two years in the United States Army, including a tour of duty in Korea and retired from New Jersey Bell Telephone Co. where he was a draftsman and dispatcher before moving to Norwich ten years ago.  David received his Credentials of Ordination and Doctorate of Divinity from the World Christianship Ministries in Fresno, Calif. where he is a member in good standing.  He was titled as a Pastoral Counselor and listed on the Ministerial Roster at the Riverside Church in New York City.  Dave worked at the Silo City Club in Norwich and The Chestnut Inn on Oquaga Lake in Deposit.  He got immense pleasure meeting people and serving customers at The Parson’s Daughter in Norwich.  As a testimony of his caring, friendly and generous spirit, David received over 400 notes and cards from family, friends and well wishers during the last two months of his life, which meant a lot to him.
 He is survived by his companion Robert (Bobby) Johnson of Norwich; his twin sister, Sharon Jeffer of Norwich, his sisters, Esther Breen and husband Aren of Wyckoff, N.J., and Deborah Cochrane of Packanack Lake, Wayne, N.J.  Several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews, and cousins also survive.
At the request of David, there will be no calling hours. A memorial service celebrating the life of David Busse-Smith will be held on Saturday, June 2 at 3 in the afternoon at The Columbus Community Church in Columbus (New Berlin) New York where Dave and Bob are members. Rev. Stephen Reese will be officiating. 
In lieu of flowers, contributions honoring Dave may be sent to:  The David Busse-Smith Memorial Mission Fund at The Columbus Community Church, Columbus (New Berlin), NY 13411. 
The Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford, is providing arrangements.
