Joan Stanton


NORWICH – Joan V. Stanton, 67, of Norwich, passed away unexpectedly late Mon. morning, May 14, 2007 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born in Niagara Falls on Aug. 18, 1939, Joan was the daughter of Charles and Ruth Bays. Following her years in the Niagara Falls schools, she married Robert Stanton in Binghamton on Feb. 1, 1957. Over the course of their marriage, Joan and Robert lived in Hamden and Sidney, spent many years in the Gilbertsville area, and had lived in their present home for 20 years. Joan worked for the Pennysaver and Champion Products for a time; but her family was most important to her, and she was proud that she could care for them and keep her home and the people in it running smoothly. She was considered a great cook and enjoyed the holidays. Together, Joan and Robert had owned and operated Joan’s Cars and Collectibles in Norwich, did flea markets in the Cortland area, and had owned and operated a store in Oxford.
Joan is survived by her husband, Robert Stanton of Norwich; by her children and their spouses: Dianna and Dennis Jones of Adams Center, Darlene and James Hornsby of San Antonio, Texas, Bobbi and Ian Hookfin of Indianapolis, Ind., Robert and Robin Stanton of Clayville, and Cindy and Tim Carroll of Morris; 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters and brothers: Eileen Tweedy and husband Hugh of Niagara Falls and Eleanor Lester and husband Bill of Lewiston, Jerald Bays and wife Agnes of Lockport and Charles Bays and wife Diane of Detroit; and nieces and nephews. Joan was predeceased by her daughter, Denise Stanton Larrabee.
Funeral services for Joan will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeremy Stopford will officiate, with interment to follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Thursday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
