NORWICH – Helen K. Straite, 80, of Norwich and formerly of New Berlin, passed away May 9, 2007 in Norwich.
The daughter of John & Helen (Lelik) Kostun, Helen was born Feb. 26, 1927 in Binghamton. Helen was married to James Straite, who survives. She is also survived by three children: John and Karen Straite of North Carolina, Robin and Gerald Thomas of Norwich and William Straite and friend Eliesa Thomas of Utica. Grandchildren: Gregory, Gerald, Erin, Brandon, Samantha, Shelby, Dylan, Shaylynn and Gregory and great granddaughter, Isabella. Special friends of Helen who survive are Dorothy Hanley and Virginia McCumber. Helen is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by Mary and John Sedor, Anne and Robert Niggli and John and William Kostun.
Throughout her life Helen worked and the A & P Grocery store and later at the New Berlin Library. Helen is said by family to be remembered for being a devoted mother and grandmother.
She was a member of the Altar Rosary Society of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church and member of the New Berlin Fire Department where she served as an EMT.
The funeral will take place at 11 a.m., Monday at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, New Berlin. Officiating is Father Francis Case. Interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery in New Berlin.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., Sunday at the Dakin Funeral Home LP, New Berlin.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
